The Promise And Power Of The Spirit By Evangelist Sam Biggers

Living in these days we stand in awe of the power, strength and might of modern inventions and discovery.  Over the past one hundred years mankind has produced unparalleled advancement in all avenues of life.

A single bomb can destroy an entire city.  Travel to the remote corners of the earth takes hours not days or weeks.  Technology has become so advanced it is impossible for a single individual to keep up with it.  Information is available immediately on a computer on almost any subject.  Experts are required in the various fields of science just to explain to the average person what is meaningful to them.  While knowledge about issues and inventions has increased; knowledge about the Lord and the truth of the Gospel has decreased for many.  The focus of life has become on bigger, better and faster rather than on what the meaning of life itself is all about: God and His power and wisdom.

Less than four hundred years after the death of Christ the Church was more political than religious and continued in such a state of affairs until the sixteenth century.  Martin Luther is known as the man who ignited the Protestant Reformation. He was born in 1483.  He struggled mightily with a guilty conscience and an intense fear of God and hell until he realized the doctrine of “justification by faith” while studying the book of Romans.

Today I am optimistic there is going to be a worldwide revival that will provoke mankind to make a decisions concerning our eternal destiny.  We have seen spiritual awakenings in the past where thousands turn to serve Jesus Christ.  These movements were not because of a single person but a result of a thirst and desire to know more about God and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

The prophet Joel recorded there would come a day when God would visit mankind and pour out His Spirit.  We read about it in the Book of Acts.  We need another worldwide spiritual awakening today, not tomorrow.

It will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.  “Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. Joel 2:28-29

Isaiah and Habakkuk both wrote about a day when the earth would be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. Isaiah 11:9

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.  Habakkuk 2:14

These verses speak to us today as much as they have to past generations.  Today we have television, the internet, Facebook and many other forms of media that can spread the Good News of Jesus Christ around the world in a moment’s notice.  I believe God will use these tools to make mankind aware of the condition of their heart and their need to place their faith in Jesus Christ.

Who will speak for the Lord?  Who will stand up and share Christ to a lost and spiritually dying generation?  God will use us if our heart is right with Him.  I need more of God today than ever before to share of His goodness to me.  He is worthy of our honor, praise and worship.

What will it take for a worldwide awakening to occur in our generation?  A thirst for justice and righteousness proceeds revival.  There have been spiritual movements over the past one hundred years has spread around the globe.  Yet there remains a generation that has not seen or experienced a movement of God like those from the turn of the twentieth century to the present.

Please know that God desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.  I Timothy 2:4

I pray the Spirit of God will come to us, fill our hearts to overflowing compassion and mercy for those who need Him, both spiritually and for their natural needs.  Let us we be willing to be used by God

I love the song written by William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army over one hundred and twenty years ago: Send The Fire.  Listen to it and your heart will be stirred.
