Prayer For The Nations By Evangelist Sam Biggers

March 14, 2018 – Please pray for Georgia

Georgia is a country in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. The capital and largest city is Tbilisi.

The population is approximately 3.72 million.

Today 83.4 percent of the population practices Eastern Orthodox Christianity, with the majority of these adhering to the national Georgian Orthodox Church. The Georgian Orthodox Church is one of the most ancient Christian Churches, and claims apostolic foundation by Saint Andrew. In the first half of the 4th century, Christianity was adopted as the state religion of Iberia (present-day Kartli, or eastern Georgia), following the missionary work of Saint Nino of Cappadocia. The special status of the Georgian Orthodox Church is officially recognized in the Constitution of Georgia and the Concordat of 2002, although religious institutions are separate from the state, and every citizen has the right of religion.

Religious minorities of Georgia include Muslims (10.7 percent), Armenian Christians (2.9 percent) and Roman Catholics (0.5 percent).

In addition to traditional religious organizations, Georgia retains secular and irreligious segments of society (0.5 percent), as well as a significant portion of religiously affiliated individuals who do not actively practice their faith.

The above are from These statements have not been fact-checked and are only used here to help us gain a better understanding of this nation.

We see the influence of the early church fathers in the history of Georgia from the early days of Christianity. As one of the oldest religious institutions in the world, it has played a prominent role in the history and culture of Eastern Europe, Greece (including Anatolia), the Caucasus, and the Near East.

My research is brief, yet I pray you will pray for Georgia. I pray the light of the Gospel shines bright in the lives of its people. Please remember Christianity is not a tradition but a living relationship with Jesus Christ. There is a huge difference. My prayer is that I will not hold to tradition but to the Tree of Life.

1. Pray for the youth of this nation. The youth of the world are an increasing a burden of prayer as I seek the Lord in prayer for the nations. It is through the youth that a spiritual awakening must take place to have a lasting impact on the world.

2. Pray for the Orthodox Christians in Georgia and the leaders of the churches.

3. Pray for those who may be bound in tradition to be released and renewed by the Holy Spirit. Let us pray for a national awakening in the nation of Georgia that will sweep across the surrounding nations.
