When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me? Psalm 56:3-4
You have taken account of my wanderings; put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book? Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call; This I know, that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? Psalm 56:8-11
Meditating on Scripture should change our perspective in life. Psalm 56 came alive to me as I read it over and over. Much of life can cause us to tend to think negatively. It is the nature of humanity, in general, to believe that God is out to get us; that He is looking for us to fail.
My friends, may I share a truth with you? We all fail. “There is none righteous, not even one,” the Apostle Paul writes in Romans 3:10. Paul was quoting King David written in Psalm 14.
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; there is no one who does good. TheLord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Psalm 14:1-3
When we think we don’t need God, we are wrong. When we think we cannot do anything right, we are wrong. One is pride; the other is despair. Both spring from a wrong perspective of God and self. Pride is sin; despair is a lack of trust. God wants us to have a balanced perspective: His opinion.
Negative and pessimistic thoughts about our self and others are destructive and damaging; not only for own peace of mind, but also for those around us. Believe me, I know because I have been greatly disappointed and disapproving of my own behavior and thought patterns.
Walking the journey of life in fear is harmful to our soul and body as well as our spirit. Wounded, hurting people need hope. Living a life filled with fear is not God’s plan for anyone. God is for us and can be trusted. If our trust is in God, we have nothing to fear. Trust Him. Open your heart to trust Him.
Your vows are binding upon me, O God; I will render thank offerings to You. For You have delivered my soul from death, indeed my feet from stumbling, so that I may walk before God in the light of the living. Psalm 56:1-13
